Restaurants need to go mobile – and be iphone ready
Brasserie le Pont believed to be first .mobi restaurant site for Dublin.
Brasserie le Pont, Dublin’s newest French restaurant on Fitzwilliam place, has launched its mobile webpages or a .mobi site. The new business is the brainchild of restaurateur Fiona Kelly, her restaurant is believed to be the first Dublin restaurant to offer its customers a mobile web interface.
“It’s not just the customer on the move wishing to find restaurant information,” says Kelly. “The percentage of online lookups is increasing on mobiles and will soon overtake desktop web searches.”
“There are approximately 600,000 people in Ireland regularly accessing the internet with their smart phones. Without a .mobi site, this can be a painful experience, with lots of pinching and trying to get the screen to fit,” says Kelly. “By comparison, using our mobile site means people can quickly check out the dining room, menus, look at the food and then call to make a booking, while checking on google maps the fastest way to reach the restaurant. It’s like having a concierge at their finger tips.”
Brasserie le Pont opened its doors a month ago and has already received enthusiastic reviews from critics. The restaurant specialises in classic French cuisine served in elegant surroundings but with an emphasis on no fuss and comfort. Head chef James Doyle is joined by an expert team which has already won over foodie pundits.
Stephen Quinn, director of Evolution-E, the mobile web design company chosen to deliver the mobile site, said the migration to .mobi for restaurants and retail outlets is essential. “Approximately 10% to 15% of all web traffic is now coming from mobile devices. If your site is not mobile, then you will lose possible customer who will not have the patience to sort through the unwieldy website to phone experience.”
Fiona Kelly of Brasserie Le Pont believes that creating an enjoyable online experience will drive customers to a very pleasurable inhouse treat. “Our Facebook is already gathering pace and we can showcase new recipes and dishes online. Then we love that our customers can check the site on their phones, make a booking, look at opening hours or just google the fastest route. Having a mobi site makes it a seamless experience.”
